Class Cheers
Now that I have little kiddos to encourage, I thought it to be necessary for me to have a cheer can. After doing something cheer worthy, I will let the student draw a stick out of the cup and the class or the group or HEY, maybe just me and the student will do the chant together!
Teacher friends, here is the list of cheers I have compiled, both from experience and websites and PD Days and Yaddie Yadda Yadda.
1. Firecracker - Clapping hands softly move them faster and louder above your head, when arms are fully up make a loud clap, and then splay you're arms out wide, say, "oooo-ahhhhh".
2. Ole!, Ole!, Ole! - Recently introduced to this one in my bilingual classroom. Teacher says and counts on fingers, uno, dos, tres, the kids snap and say, "Ole, Ole, Ole!"
3. Harry Potter Cheer - with your imaginary magic wand in hand, wave it and say together you are "pst, psh, psh, terrifico!"
4. Cowboy Cheer - Index finger up in the air, swing it around like a lasso and say, "Ye-haw!"
5. Golf Clap - Index and middle finger on one hand lightly tap the palm of the other, with your nose in the air.
6. Great Job, ________ - Clap as you say each word. You can put in "class" the students name specifically, or your school mascot, whatever works for you.
7. Lookin' Good - Say, "You are..." frame face with hands vertically and horizontally like you're taking a picture, make the noise "click, click" then say, "Lookin' Good"
8. Pat yourself on the Back - Have students pat themselves or a neighbor gently, and say to one another, "You're good stuff!"
9. Parrot Cheer - With your hands up in your arm-pits like the funky chicken, flap your parroty wings and say, "Accccccck, you did a good job! Acccccccck, you did a good Job!"
10. W.O.W. - Use your two hands as the W and your mouth as the O. (A good silent cheer)
11. A Round of Applause - Students clap an imaginary circle in front of them.
12. Saturday Night Fever - (They will have no idea what this means..haha, but they will love it)
While doing the disco finger dance say, "Ah Ah Ah Ah, we did a great, we did great!"
13. Cheese Grater - Ask student to get out their imaginary blocks on cheese and their graters. In one hand is you're grater and the other is your cheese. Make grating motion 3x and say "You're Great, You're Great, Youre Great!"(Good cheer to teach homonyms)
14. Kiss Your Brain - Students kiss the palm of their hand and lightly smack it onto their forehead.
15. Kiss Your Heart - Just like the one above only they place their hand on their heart. This is a good one for kind actions or being a good friend. Something not so academic.
16. Silent Cheer - Students can jump up and down or move however they like (not touching anyone else) as long as they are SILENT!
17. Sign Language Cheer - The ASL applause, wave both hands in the air, similar to spirit fingers and saying goodbye at the same time.
18. Snap, Crackle, Pop - Snap: snap fingers, Crackle: rubbing hands together, Pop: Clap!
19. Roller Coaster Cheer - Hands in front of you like you're holding onto a rail, say "Clink, Clink, Clink" (this is the roller coaster going up, you can make this part as long or as short if you want, sometimes its fun to keep clinking and the kids never know when you're stop), then hands up in the air and say, "Ahhhhhh" wave your arms as you go down!
20. Shine Your Halo - Make a circular motion above your head.
Well thats all I've got in my can, if you have one you love to use put it in a comment below and I will add it to my can!
Happy Teaching my friends!

Fantastic - act like you are spraying glass cleaner in front of you, then wipe it a circle and cheer "faanntasstic!!"
I like the idea of having them on sticks in a can!
ReplyDeleteKetchup clap: With one hand make the sign for the letter o (bottle). With the other hand hit the o hand like it is the bottom of the ketchup bottle.
ReplyDeleteDeer in the headlights: My class loves, loves, loves this one! While standing bend head down to face floor. Give yourself antlers next to your temples. Make wide, wide open eyes. Count to 3 and everyone pops head up with those startled eyes. Hilarious!
