Whole Class Journals

Classroom Journals!

This past year with my 4th graders, my students really enjoyed these, I have a few who write a lot more than others and some that just enjoy reading other peoples works. The notebooks are for early finishers or time fillers for students that need differentiation from other assignments.

The Rules:
1. Do not write on/in/or about another persons story.
2. To begin a story turn to the first clean page. Do NOT skip around pages in the journal.
3. If you continue a story from another page, go back to that page and write, "Continued on page____"
4. Remember to spell the best you can and to use correct punctuation.

Below each picture is the text that is typed on the paper. I just printed them and taped them on. Feel free to copy, paste, change your name or principals name and print them for your own classroom!

I decided to use the same journals again. Each one has a few stories in it, and I am hoping that will be some inspiration and entertainment to my new kiddos starting in a few weeks!

Below each picture is my text, feel free to copy and paste. :)
Happy Teaching.

I Had a Dream
Have you ever has a really strange or cool dream? Maybe even a spooky dream? This journal is to share the crazy things that our brain comes up with while we are sleeping. Please write one to two paragraphs describingyour dreams. What was so strange about it? Who was in it? Did it make sense? How did you feel when you woke up? Trey your BEST at spelling and grammar. I can not wait to read all about it!

If I Were the President of the United States...
Running the United States of America can be a stressful job. If you were president of our nation what laws would you change and why? Would you make any new laws? If so what are you changing and making new laws? What is it like to live in the White House in Washington, D.C.? Is it a tough job? What do you like best about being president? Remember, when you are writing to use your best spelling and grammar. We might even send these to President Obama.

Your Future Job!
Write about your future job, tell the reader in detail what your job is. What are your responsibilities? Who do you work with? WHat is the job like? What do you enjoy or not enjoy about your job? Please remember to use complete sentences and try to spell your best. (It's okay to make mistakes in spelling as long as you try your best to sound it out). Please write one to two paragraphs .Oh!...and remember your classmates and school mates, maybe even MRs.Whitford will be reading this, so do your very best!

Family Vacation
This is your chance to share hundreds of details. When writing one to two paragraphs include the WHO went on the vacation or WHO did you go to see, WHAT did you do, WHEN did this vacation happen, WHERE did you to, WHY did you go to that location? The more details the better. Try your best in spelling and sentence structure, lots of people will be reading these!

Your Weekend!
This entry should be one to two paragraphs long. Remember to write in complete sentences and try your best in spelling. Tell us about the weekend plans you have coming up or a weekend in the past that you remember. Use details, such as where you went, who you were with? What activities did you do together? Did you eat anything special? The more details the better! Happy Writing! And remember... you never know who will read this, so do your very BEST!

  4. I think I'm going to alternate my whole class journals each quarter, that way it will be like "new & improved" writing ideas!

  5. Ooo, I like that idea. Or you could just put them in the classroo library, away from the writing table, then students can still read others stories.
