Yarn Letters - Be Thankful
Okay, consider yourself warned, this post has a LOT of pictures. But, honestly I think the more the better, it helps clear up any questions.
To start off with I refused to spend $$ on letters than were going to be wrapped in yarn. Plus at times it is hard to find the size or style you want. So get some old foam board or card board that is tucked away in some closet and make your own. Yes it takes a little more time, but you're saving those precious crafting funds for somthing really worth it!
Draw out your letters and then use and exact knife or scissors to cut them out.
It really doesn't matter how precise you are because they're going to be covered anyway!
See, the jankyness on the bottom? I don't even care...
Begin by tying a knot onto the letter..
And begin wrapping, and wrapping, and wrapping, wrapping, wrapping, and wrapping.
*Keep it tight as you go, it will make it look neater in the end and will last longer over time.
I chose a veragated thread for theese fall letters, but any type of yarn solid or otherwise will work. It all just depends on the look you are going for.
*Sometimes the bends and corners and be tricky. I've found that it works best to take these parts one little annoying chunk at a time, like so....
Once you're to the point that the whole letter is covered to your liking make a few tight ties and knots to secure the last strand.
Snip it..
Look at you, your craft little mistress! You've just completed a letter "u" or is it and "n"?
Duhn, dun, duh!!!
When you're entire phrase is done lay them out and see how they look.
If you find them to be satisfying, flip them over to the back side and give them a thin layer of spray adhesive and let them dry, this is just to hold the strings exactly where they are. (Sorry this is sideways..)
Now then, because I made my letters from foam board some of the letters have little tips of white board showing... No worries we can fix that.
The almighty crafting tool presents itself, the Sharpie! I chose a dark brown.
Before the white...
Color gently, covering the whole space and no one will ever know! SHHH, I wont even tell! :) It's our little secret!
After all the letters were done, I hot glued a thin brown ribbon to the backs to hang them by... how you choose to hang them is totally up to you.
Here it is above our dining room, looking into the kitchen.
And a little close up... (I spy with my little eye, a husband in the background making the bed!! He is a keeper! That is something to "be thankful" for!)
Be Thankful! Be Happy! Be Crafty!
